Michael Hazanavicius' The Artist beautifully adapts the lives of silent film stars into a dazzling depiction of the dawn of a new age. Segueing both meticulous yet startlingly stunning filming techniques amidst an unexpected genre of choice, The Artist, presents a fascinating view of silent films, an innovative turn on modern film, and a rebirth of a dormant, perhaps dead era, that is perhaps more fascinating its second time around. What was particularly incredible about The Artist was the film maker's technique in making something that could be completely tedious and lackluster, a grandeur that presents itself as anything but; the burst of emotion and feeling were something that audible words need not convey. Five stars for The Artist and then some! If you have viewed this film, I'd be delighted to hear your thoughts!

My physical appearance and or mental state may have arguably been compared to the first image for the past few weeks....a hopeless mess of disarrayed thoughts and excessive studying for exams have been my life, yet hopefully not defined it in the slightest as of late. But alas, I am done with school for an interim of two weeks and can take my mind preoccupied with algebraic word problems and Julius Caesar lately, to a nice, desolate, and calm place. Belle & Sebastian's "Song for Sunshine," has pretty much been my anthem since finishing school related affairs, which was probably like two hours ago, now that it comes to mind, BUT STILL.

Hello! I've been drowning in a hopeless abyss of schoolwork and lethargy....needless to say, my blog has....sucked (there's really no eloquent way to put it). Besides talking like a hillbilly in Spanish and saying the English equivalent of "I is not lazy (hyuk hyuk hyuk)," and in some parallel universe aptly managing to get an A, and STILL hating school, things have been going on the moderate side of swell. .....On a quite different note, and bipolar manifesto, I've taken immense liking to Kim Manfredi's works, displaying a striking resemblance to a cell, or perhaps an illustriously profound item, that my narrow mind is unable to comprehend. The intricate detail, and ripples of intangible tides within, convey a great deal of subtle beauty, that is so seldom encapsulated in modern art.

The realm of telemarketing is such a trite discussion, as many ads are either completely over the top and garish, just plain boring, or at many times, extremely cringe worthy. Japan's recent campaign for a Shiro shochu drink revolutionizes the state of telemarketing as we know it, providing a clean aesthetic and a wonderful visual accompaniment to She & Him's "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?" As mentioned on the website Booooooom, this video does more justice to She & Him's single, than the actual music video itself, and seemingly, tells all other countries to step up their advertising game.... (Please know that by my posting this video I am not in any way, shape, or form, promoting the consumption of alcohol (for minors like myself). I am only showcasing excellent marketing and a musical interlude for the boredom that's been hanging over my deadpan of a blog)

If I were to be wealthy one day, which the idea is so far fetched that it is even quite comical, I would own La Garconne's entire stock (fact!). Despite a few pieces here and there, it would be safe to say that I have both lusted after and drooled over my keyboard countless times, when viewing their inventory, which is actually quite pathetic. The level of class and understated elegance that many items on La Garconne's website embody is something that should be sought for and both epitomized in many clothing pieces, but is actually so seldom achieved. If anybody would like to send me donations to fund my ownership over every single piece of clothing on La Garconne's website, you'd make me a very happy girl.

As of late, the movies I have viewed have either been drowned in horrible melancholia with absolutely no redeeming quality, or to put it simply, just plain horrible (yes, that's you Horrible Bosses). Upon viewing Beginners, staring Melanie Laurent, Ewan McGregor, and Christopher Plummer, I am quite certain that the curse of horrible movies, that has been unlawfully bestowed upon me has been lifted.

Mike Mills' latest film Beginners so beautifully segues a tragic and heartbreaking story with at many times, an unexpected hilarious edge. Oliver (Ewan McGregor), alongside father Hal (Christopher Plummer), and Anna (Melanie Laurent), both pensively and nostalgically explore the realm of heartbreak, love, death, and the maudlin fervor of new beginnings that ultimately make us human. Shortly after the death of Oliver's father, Hal, whom after 44 years of marriage comes out of the closet to live a bona fide gay lifestyle, that which includes listening to the always hip and happening "house music," Oliver meets Anna, a somewhat volatile, and effervescent spirit, whose frivolity evoke nostalgic happenings and wisdom from his father. While Anna and Oliver are beginners at love, the insight and moxie of his father, that which impart onto him, give Oliver the strength to journey both his life and relationship with Anna, in such a way, that gives his father's life the meaning in which it deserves.

This week ABC News reported that nearly half of all three- to six-year-old girls worry about being fat. In my book, Think: Straight Talk for Women to Stay Smart in a Dumbed-Down World, I reveal that 15 to 18 percent of girls under 12 now wear mascara, eyeliner and lipstick regularly; eating disorders are up and self-esteem is down; and 25 percent of young American women would rather win America's Next Top Model than the Nobel Peace Prize. Even bright, successful college women say they'd rather be hot than smart. A Miami mom just died from cosmetic surgery, leaving behind two teenagers. This keeps happening, and it breaks my heart.

Teaching girls that their appearance is the first thing you notice tells them that looks are more important than anything. It sets them up for dieting at age 5 and foundation at age 11 and boob jobs at 17 and Botox at 23. As our cultural imperative for girls to be hot 24/7 has become the new normal, American women have become increasingly unhappy. What's missing? A life of meaning, a life of ideas and reading books and being valued for our thoughts and accomplishments.

In a society thats foundation is largely based on superficial manifestations and the value of the cliché "beauty over brains," it's no wonder why eating disorders are on the rise, and self esteem has plummeted. It's disheartening to witness how values are reconsidered, and a life meant to be lived is spent trying to achieve intangible ideals of beauty; women feeding into a tributary of false values and negative thinking in order to be deemed acceptable by an inner source of false pressure, resulting from unrealistic motives of society, that, let's face it, no one can live up to. Universally, all women, emulate an ideal aesthetic that they thus compare themselves to, only to be disappointed by the unattainable outcome. So why do we continually set unrealistic standards for ourselves, only to be further discouraged by the image we fail to produce?

In today's age, this focus on an unreasonably idealistic form of beauty has become ingrained in our society; it is seen as a normal part of a woman's values and cultural identity, an ideal that women cling to, and strive to live up to. Women are not defined by their weight, height, legs, arms, thighs, or facial features; women are defined by what lies beneath that. Beauty is not something that is meant to be sought after, but contrarily, a grandeur, that arises when one radiates self confidence and what their true meaning in the world is; beauty emerges from the revelation of true personality, and the acceptance of one's self over the acceptance one gains from projecting false images in order to comply with relevant sources of today's media, and unrealistic standards we hold ourselves to.

A "life of meaning" cannot be extracted by longing for the next life, but presently living the one we have now, regardless of being given to us with flawed pieces, and confidence we chisel down to the core, for it is from this that we allow ourselves to grow. Achieving a "life of meaning," starts with being kind to yourself, allowing yourself to think freely and break away from an unrealistic mind frame, where beauty dictates our persona. It's safe to say that women will never stop caring about their appearances, which, is only human, as we all as a majority care about materialistic and superficial things, only naturally. The point is not to completely rid our selves of a critical attitude to ourselves, but to accept the things we can change, and those we cannot, imparting the wisdom for us to find the beauty within us. When we come to terms with the ideal of relishing ourselves for who we are, as opposed to who we are expected to be, happiness is ultimately found. Life may be about creating yourself, but never reinventing yourself, for it is when we accept the splendor of life and the brevity of it, that the grace of living for ourselves, not others, comes to a complete truth.

Lately, I've been watching an astronomical amount of Arrested Development episodes, which, might I add, is the ultimate cure for unwarranted boredom and one of the most well written TV shows I've ever come across (admittedly, I don't really watch TV at all). My obsession with Arrested Development expands to one of the leading characters, the always comedic, Tobias Funke--doctor, actor, and a self confessed "never nude." Recently, I've compiled a wee compilation of some of my favorite songs as of late (and attempted at trying to make it look like an awful album cover). Mellow tunes and the like, have been my mantra lately, seemingly in correlation with the laid back and mellow summer days that have returned to Los Angeles. I've been spending my days [begrudgingly] reading Jane Eyre (gahhhh! you tortured soul, jane!), snacking on treats, scoping out the perfect macaron, drinking Thai iced tea, ruminating over the disappointment of Richard Ayoade's Submarine, and watching a particularly alarming amount of films at the cinema.

When in New York, roughly about a month ago, I found myself drifting into deep pictorial reveries regarding my fictional Tribeca loft. In retrospect, this fantasy was as far from my current reality, as me majestically gaining a newly found development of coordination; the prospect is quite nice, but the outcome is deterred by the distant memory of my tripping over flatter than flat surfaces, and falling off chairs that somehow seem to telekinetically glide across the room. As the notion of my said "Tribeca Loft" launched into farther humbuggery, I too wondered if the cat hair of my seventy-two future felines, would juxtapose well against my IKEA burgundy futon....the contradicting cat hair, thought otherwise.

The verdict on the death of my "Loft Fantasy" sparked a coincidental and slightly uncanny, finding of graphic artists, Adrian Merz and Cornelia Hess' past project, "Winter 1972" (involving quite the motley of the standard white post-it note). Refashioned into what may be confused as a "Winter Wonderland," their project explores new boundaries in the realm of conceptual art, and most importantly, will revolutionize the state of my fancifully fictitious apartment/loft as we know it!

Sincerest, apologies for my absence...the latter post describes it in great (and tedious!) detail, as graduation festivities are at their prime, and quite ridiculously, a middle school graduation these days is equivalent to that of a college student...I'm quite certain that the absurdity never ceases. In other recent news however, I have taken the liberty of perusing Cynthia Rowley's online boutique, salivating in a contradicting manner;being horrified (by the prices), all whilst being enraptured by the aesthetic feel--an unyielding beauty that never ceases! Above are some of my favorite pieces from her recent collections. It's really quite uncanny how the clothing goes coincidentally with the color scheme of my blog, but alas, it's driven out of my neurotic perfectionistic tendencies...

Just a little side note, if you are interested in some cheap entertainment, I would highly recommend the tumblr "Movie Bar Code", as it blends the quintessential movie still (or two), into an aesthetically pleasing barcode. The caliber of brilliantness is really quite too good to be true!

My first acquaintance with Tatum O'Neil was in the summer of 2009, where I was told by a bum (for lack of a better word), on the streets of Los Angeles, that I reportedly looked like a young Tatum O'Neil, circa Paper Moon. The legitimacy of his comment has yet to be determined, but alas, I'll gladly take it. Upon viewing Paper Moon, well over a year ago, director Peter Bogdanovich, comedically, captures the comical junctures that follow the wee Addie Loggins, (quite the contrary of a quintessential orphan), and her alleged father, on a comical jaunt in what might be considered the most unlikely situations (i.e. pretending to be an eerily convincing Bible salesman). Perhaps if all semi-criminalistic lives were portrayed quite as charmingly as so, then, would I jump on the fugitive bandwagon, but alas, this is deception at its highest.

If I was informed that canned (and imported!) air, allegedly, "relieves stress, cures homesickness and helps fighting nostalgia," dare I say, I might be the first to jump on this ridiculous, and, might I add, enticing band wagon. Equipped with an air formula, and puzzling categorization as an obvious "organic" item, this item literally takes you back to a time, moment, and juncture spent (or perhaps fantasized?) in Prague. If they had European air, then might I be perfectly content....even if the idea is rather preposterous.

I was award (very kindly) by the magnanimously marvelous "Felix Curds" over at Happy Un-Birthdays the Versatile Blogger Award, entailing listing seven facts about myself , and passing it on to other lovely blogger folks. I'd like to pass it on to: Danica, That's Happy, Sun, and Michelle Ma Belle.

Here we are: 1.) I'm quite the perfectionist, often taking forever on homework and projects to get every detail right....most of the time it's a complete waste of my time.... 2.) In real life I'm painfully shy, I hardly ever talk in class, and despise presenting projects and being called upon 3.) My biggest fear is failure....I'm conceivably the biggest worrywart you'll ever meet 4.) Most of my wardrobe is black or grey, I seldom deviate from it 5.) I'm actually quite terrible at science, but quite decent at math 6.) I get bored quite easily...I like to do something every second of the day 7.) I'm quite a sucker for beautifully crafted glasses, even if they are non perscription, and thus, serve no purpose in my life. Sadly, my awkwardness is furthered by my semi-terrible eyesight. I've always gravitated towards quite large and obscene glasses, only to have my petty dreams crushed last summer, when I had to resort to a bit smaller frame, as my hair is already quite short, thus, large frames dominate my whole face! Even though the practicality of these glasses from mod vintage etsy, is far beyond my optical oddities, I still can dream...

I'm terribly sorry for the lack of posts, it seems my school thinks they're prepping us to go to Harvard or something.... Anyways, I've been quite smitten over these Confetti System piñatas, and other mystical miscellany for quite some time. The magical ambiance created by these beauties, is far from your run of the mill "birthday party," decor, but quite contrarily, a very innovative, and girly(?) embellishment for the household. Is it possible for a reduction on the price, though? $140-150 on a piñata, seems a tad absurd! (photos via thank you, ok)

Sofia Coppola herself, and her latest film Somewhere, has become a redundant motif amongst all us pretentious bloggers--hehe. Sofia beautifully synthesizes subtle beauty and aesthetics to realistically capture small moments, and fragments, in her films. The dominant motif of broken relationships, that mend themselves into lasting forms of love, coupled with the metaphoric elements, hinted the essence of Sofia Coppola. While Sofia's films move exceedingly slow, and I'm quite positive you could walk out of the room for fifteen minutes, and it would still be on the same scene, I am fond of the way she focuses on small moments, as opposed to dramatizing situations that no human being can relate to, which really is a dominant tick in films these days. Somewhere was beautifully directed, and written, but I couldn't help but notice that there was something missing towards the end of the film (I won't ruin the end for you, so I won't name specifics). I am quite certain that Somewhere will never top Lost in Translation, but it was a wonderful film, with absolutely stunning cinematography, and sweet little junctures. For those of you who have seen the film, or would like to see it, what are your thoughts?

I am particularly impressed by the work of artist, Ben Skinner. His work embodies perspective, depth, and conceptual techniques, that vary throughout each of his works. Though his works, are by no means groundbreaking, or "original," there is something quite sublime about a beautiful color scheme, that makes you like an object more as opposed to a colorless, monochrome one. In short, I am quite fond of the photo shown above, entitled icy grave, for it appears as if it captures both a beautiful and ominous aura.

I'm quite certain that we're all acquainted with brands and things of that nature, that are incapable of producing a single item that does not delight the retinas and stimulate the center of our aesthetically pleasing senses. Amongst the vast spectrum of "sinless" clothing designs and brands, is French label A.P.C. I have been quite an avid fan of their's for the past year, relishing their minimalistic designs, and everything including the like, deeming myself a complete "prep," as I have enjoyed many of their loafers as well. Above I've selected some of my favorite pieces. Mind you I've had to limit them to a mere four articles, for if I hadn't this post could go on forever, and I'd bore you even more!

I often make hasty assumptions of my views on movies, before viewing the whole product, which, might I add, often corrupts my whole focus on the movie, if I have made the assumption of hating or "disliking" the movie. However, now being a pretentious Woody critic and enthusiast, I am pleased to say that Annie Hall has made it under the innumerable tab of my "favorite movies." I'd really like to say something philosophical and overly analytical about Annie Hall, but half the time I was entranced by Dianne Keaton's impeccably styled androgynous clothing, to summarize it in a deep, precise (and mildly pretentious) manner...hmph...

"There's an old joke - um... two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of 'em says, "Boy, the food at this place is really terrible." The other one says, "Yeah, I know; and such small portions." Well, that's essentially how I feel about life - full of loneliness, and misery, and suffering, and unhappiness, and it's all over much too quickly. The... the other important joke, for me, is one that's usually attributed to Groucho Marx; but, I think it appears originally in Freud's "Wit and Its Relation to the Unconscious," and it goes like this - I'm paraphrasing - um, "I would never want to belong to any club that would have someone like me for a member." That's the key joke of my adult life, in terms of my relationships with women. "

I've always had a bit of an affinity for beautiful color schemes and compilations. While the subject of "colors" covers such a wide spectrum, an object's coloring makes it ever so much appealing, adding onto the overall aesthetics of a piece. I'm afraid that the colors that I lean to wardrobe wise, as opposed to the colors I like for aesthetically pleasing reasons, differ immensley, as my wardrobe is a black hole, peppered with the occasional charcoal grey. Outside the wardrobe arena, I've always been quite fond of light blues, greens, purples, and peach color schemes, as their whimsical ambiance has always rendered a sort of majestic aura. Upon viewing, the Pretty Colors tumblr, I have been given even more reason to be entranced by the wonderfulness of what is "colors." What are your favorite colors?

I am a self confessed "word nerd" and I vie for the little moments in life, where a mellifluous word enters my vocabulary. This "word nerdiness," transcends throughout my writings (essays, etc), as I tend to insert just about every vocabulary word I've ever heard in my life in a single sentence, leading me to sound like a pretentious middle schooler....irony! Wise blood's new music video B.I.G. E.G.O is more like a walking editorial, than anything else. While I don't particularly enjoy, the "soundtrack," the video embodies beautiful aesthetics and filming techniques, and is definitely worth a look

An exploration of beautifully compiled textures and colors, and possible suggestiveness would suffice for probably a mere half of the beauty her work so elegantly captures. Appreciating the unconventional beauty of an ordinary object, which by far surpasses its quintessential aesthetics, Julia Randall sculpts an embodiment of all the strange curiosities of art.

I must admit, I was quite skeptical upon viewing Manhattan, for the very first time, as I often have the attention span of a toddler when it comes to watching films. However, upon the brief juncture where Woody's voice began chronicling prevalent issues, whilst a picturesque view of New York came onto screen, a future cycle of obsession and enrapturement was thrust upon me. Admittedly, I found the whole basis of the story of Isaac (Woody), dating a 17 year old to be slightly creepy, but nonetheless, the dry humor, abundance of quotable moments, and memorable characters full of witty idiosyncrasies, somewhat substituted for the off putting aura Isaac (Woody) and Tracy's (Mariel Hemingway) relationship entailed. It's a truly fantastic film, and since viewing it, I have become a Woody Allen enthusiast! Any Woody films, you have enjoyed?

Anzer Farms, a workshop located in the Outer Richmond of San Francisco, so earnestly sculpts the epitome of innovative design, and beautiful aesthetics. I am exceptionally enraptured with the majority of their work pertaining to stumps of wood with a lightbulb atop of it, creating an innovative approach to the future of what is known as the common "light fixture." It seems to me, that the simplest, and slightly unthinkable objects make the most beautiful compilations. Combining both aesthetically pleasing ideology and a great styling, this concept is sure-fire. While the whole idea of this new idea of "lighting" is somewhat ridiculous and overpriced, you absolutely cannot deny the simple beauty and awe-striking audacity it has on the fellow enchanter. It's a sad fact of life, that all the things I like, are completely out of my grip (or price range!). But please, divulge your inner "Ella" and purchase one of these lovelies, so I may vicariously live my nonexistent life through you!

I was recently awarded by Danica of Oh, Hello There an "I love your blog" prize. The cockles of my heart, are truly warmed....hehe

1. Why did you create the blog?

I suppose there isn't necessarily one definitive answer on why I created this blog, but quite contrarily, a compilation of reasons. One of these reasons was out of sheer boredom, but mainly my love for writing and mildly superficial tendencies for anything and everything that appeases the naked eye. Initially, this blog was meant to be primarily fashion, but as the months progressed, it turned more into an "art" or "design" blog. I suppose the name Reve de la Mode, isn't quite fitting anymore is it? Oh, well...

2. What kind of blogs do you follow?

I have a tendency to follow blogs that are aesthetically pleasing, but also feature excellent content that appeases my likes. Many of the blogs I follow have similar taste to myself, but also adumbrate who they are individually.

3. Favorite makeup brand?

Hmm...I'm afraid I don't wear makeup, out of sheer laziness, and I'ver never really felt the need to!

4. Favorite clothing brand?

My favorite clothing brands are mainly the ones I know I'll never be able to touch, including, but not limited to: Comme des Garcons, Marni, Margiela, APC, Acne, Alexander Wang, Rachel Comey, Balenciaga, Prada, Proenza Schouler, Yohji Yamamoto, Miu Miu, Rodarte, Chloe, Chanel, and the list continues!

5. Your indispensable makeup product:

Again, I don't wear makeup, but my trusty Smith's Rosebud Salve for the hands and lips does the trick!

6. Your favorite color:

I'm quite boring when it comes to colors so I usually lean towards darker and more neutral colors, so I would probably have to say black or charcoal grey.

7. Your perfume:

I'm quite scattered when it comes to perfume, I either wear it or I don't.

8. Your favorite film:

There's quite a lot of films I like, so it is quite cantankerous to narrow it down to only one, therefore I shall name a few. It is a given that I am an avid Sofia Coppola fan, as per previous posts, but recently I have gotten into Woody Allen films, particularly, Manhattan. I also quite like Rosemary's Baby, Lolita, and of course, Daria:Is it Fall Yet? thrown in for good measure.

9. What country would you like to visit and why?

There's quite a few countries I would like to go to, but on the top of my list is France and Japan, namely because of the aesthetics, and food. Furthermore, my glutonous tendencies tell me that I would quite like Laduree....

10. Make the last question and answer to yourself:What do you aspire to be?

A writer, or if that doesn't work, a chocolate chip pancake is always an option.

It is quite unsettling, for I have so much remorse on the lack of effort, and extreme brevity my posts are as of lately. I suppose laziness has succumbed me, thus dominating my ability to complete a coherent thought....

Setting that aside, I have recently been transfixed by one of the entries to China's Endandgered Species graphic design competition. Designed by Xiao Dong li and Yang Xiao, their work entitled Save Me is aimed at advocating the protection of wild life species by supporting the proper disposal of hazardous waste. The works feature animals constructed out of black plastic blags, creating an innovative approach towards graphic design. Focusing on saving our world together, the project strongly inspires the outside observer to play their role in society by simply advocating through the cliche "actions and words" the importance of prevalent environmental issues.

Among my favorite designers includes Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons, namely, because of her unusual and fresh approach to art and design. Upon viewing the exhibition Refusing Fashion:Rei Kawakubo at the MOCAD, I am slightly saddened by the fact that this exhibition has already had its hayday, as the installations feature a certain aesthetically pleasing je ne sais quoi. Abiding by the simple philosophy of designing clothes that have never been created, Rei Kawakubo does so wonderfully.

Recently, I have taken a strong liking towards Mia Cullin's recent work, entailing the use of textiles for pillows, curtains, and other means of aesthetics. At the moment, I have been exceptionally enamored by some of her textiles entitled Flake. At first glance, the design resembles nothing more than sheer triangles placed atop of one another, but it is allegedly, a compilation of stars, which come to think of it truly adumbrates the title Flake; for stars seem to appear that way, as they appear as nothing more than a mere scintilla in the vast sky above us.

I've found that sometimes the best part of design and fashion is the part that is absolutely so utterly ridiculous with the lively spectacle it makes out of its self, defeats the whole purpose of wearability. For those of you who are familiar with the contemporary designer Hussein Chalayan, you may now exactly what I am talking about. To put it rather bluntly, if I were to explain what Hussein Chalayan's current work entails, I would make no sense whatsoever, which is why I leave you with the video, as a result of my lack of my explanatory skills.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Emily Nachison's mesmerizing work, her current work explores space, natural growth and the human perception of nature. Her fantastic work is constructed through a series of manmade materials, given a completely new identity as they transform into a lively spectacle. While at first glance her conceptual designs may appear to resemble a spiderweb or an untangled ball of yarn, one cannot help but look twice, and really think what is this mess? Perhaps the thing I am fond of the most about this series entails the fact that work like so, can be interpreted anyway the viewer pleases, thus, highlighting the fact that art is not right nor wrong, rather it's a bit ambiguous and strange, which is half the reason we are all drawn to it in the first place.

You may remember a few weeks ago, I posted about the wonderful designs of Katie Niewodowski. I recently, revisited her website only to find that in additional to her "Cellular Structure" works, her works including but not limited to, "Atlantis" , are equally as wonderful. Perhaps, this could be taken as an insult, but I can't help but feel that the materials that make up these sculptures resemble the infamous "As Seen on TV" Floam, which I had personally purchased and critiqued at the age of 9, and the result: It does not easily peel from a surface and it smells as wretched as its foam beaded glory looks! In addition to its conceptual aesthetics, the color scheme is all sorts of excellent, beginning with the eye popping pink and orange color tones.

Although I have never had the pleasure of enjoying the writing styles of Vladimir Nobokav in nothing other than film form, this tragicomedy was beautifully adapted into what I believe is perhaps the most moving and thought provoking films of the last century. The story is based around Humbert Humbert, and his infatuation with the young nymphette and precocious adolescent Lolita (Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.). While both the story and the film are based around creepy undertones, one cannot help but wonder what provokes these feelings and lust and passion from a middle age man towards an adolescent. As the story goes into further detail the truth behind his infatuation may seem somewhat of a mystery, but his true character and inner most thoughts resurface to the outside observer, in a beautiful, and absolute tragic manner.

Katie Niewodowski’s designs known at the present moment as Cellular Sculptures, are just about as unconventoinally beautiful, as unconventional beauty can get, as evidenced by the exuberant colors, and the nice mobile aesthetics. I couldn't help but notice, but from a distance (or at least from my slightly askew view), the small bits and baubles in the design resemble somewhat of a summer fruit or berry (i.e. blueberries, raspberries, grapes...). Whatever the case may be, pictures of these beauties are clogging up my desktop as I speak (type?), and my obsession with Katie's designs are growing infectiously. A recent find, Quadron (featured in the soundtrack for The Kids are All Right), is a wonderful Danish duo with that certain je ne sais quoi that makes you want to make like a chicken and do a head jerking movement, all whilst tapping your feet for that ever so extra dramatic effect. Furthermore, the temptation to post this song grew with the aesthetically pleasing video that tags along with it. I am quite entranced at the moment by the wonderful stylings of the Dutch designer Thomas Voorn. Consequently, the idea of some of his designs at the present moment consist of spelling out names, words, etc, by using a variety of clothing pieces and assorted fabrics, resulting in a spectacular, not to mention an aesthetically pleasing spectacle, known as Garment Grafitti. I am finally restored to reality after I was slightly shaken and caught off guard by being mistaken as a boy from behind; as my hair was chopped off recently into what I thought was a pixie, but was allegedly perceived as a buzz cut from a grown man who worked at the "genius" bar at the Apple Store! Such oxymorons; genuis bar. Hah! I was slightly tempted to go to this website whilst holding the speaker of the iPad in the said "genius's" ear while screaming with triumph that I had objected of his use of the pronoun, boy, to describe myself, a girl.

Anyways, carrying on........I recently came across these beautiful images from how to make a baby elephant float via gilles krivich. I am completely and utterly enamored by the beautiful textures, and black and white color schemes, coupled with the occasional dash of purple in these photos.

The other day as I was browsing the ever so lovely all the mountains blog I stumbled across these wonderful shots from come darkness; "a small collection of art curated and installed by Maria Alexander Vettese." The laid back atmosphere and the grey and bluish color scheme nearly leapt of the page making it even more enticing for me to dedicate a post to this collection. If my room ever does get slightly "revamped" this would be an ideal homage (honoring those who have talent that surpasses my ability to raise one eyebrow, while giving a devious grin) on my wall. Anyways, I hope all is well, and perhaps, if the opportunity comes, and all else fails, dedicate a homage to something that has been inspiring you (note: i am not at all advising you to be a stalker by creating a said "homage." haha)!

Before, I actually published this post I was refraining from doing that really annoying typing where people spell things as they sound and declare themselves hipster because they happen to like MGMT and shop at American Apparel....Anyways, the point of this post was to not make a satire out of the "hipster" culture , but to address the ever so lovely Carey Mulligan in the film An Education. I am quite positive I am not the first to point out and critique this film on the blogosphere, but there are some things one cannot resist doing, obsessing over the ever so lovely Carey Mulligan is most definitely one of them! An Education beautifully chronicles the life of the sixteen year old Miss Jenny Millar, and the sophmoric choices she faces as she meets the charming and plausible David Goldman (Peter Sasgaard) who introduces her to a lush and luxurious world that's as alluring as his incandescent sports car. A whirlwind of events spiral as Jenny must choose between a tantalizing dream life, or the life that brings her back to reality. If you have had the chance to view this film what are your opinions?

I am no Charlotte Gainsbourg enthusiast at all, but I do find her intriguing and when I came across these photos of her hotel room at the Chateau Marmont I was completely and legitamately in awe! Girls like Charlotte make me question the existance of a plain ordinary girl like myself. Granted that I am superficial (muahaha) , these aesthetically pleasing photos made me jump up and down, because you know, I'm in this stage in my life where I'm like "oh my god, pretty pictures, and soft color pallets!" But common guys, why is it that my hotel rooms aren't decked out in Balenciaga, equipped with ankle breaking shoes, and a pretty mess scattered across the floor. Why? The lovely Charlotte Gainsbourg is wonderful. Charlotte is practically every single complimentary adjective one could thing of. In fact, if it weren't for Miss Gainsbourg I'd probably be blogging about orange popsicles and canned sodas.

So....you may have seen this post coming as evidenced here, here, OH and here. However, I can't help but contribute to the obsession that just about every girl has with Sofia Coppola movies. By far my favorite scene out of this movie was when a Japanese woman barged into Bob's (Bill Murray) hotel room commanding him to "Lip her stockings." Like nearly all Coppola movies, they go exceedingly slow, so you can't help but concentrate on the scenic backgrounds and the tantalizing filming techniques. Furthermore, Scarlett Johansson, whom I was never particularly fond of, played her role beautifully as a young woman seeking her future through a succession of what I found to be "comical" events. For those who haven't seen this wonderful movie, please have a look! However, the ambiguous whisper at the end of the movie can be interpreted any way you'd like! For those who have seen this movie, what are your opinions?

So hi? I decided I am going to do one of those 'pointless' posts where I ramble about stuff that no one cares about and post 'pretty' pictures of The Virgin Suicides, that are capable of being on a girl's tumblr where she posts pictures of furry kittens in unmade beds and emaciated girls standing in front of vast oceans.... Anyways....admittedly, I 'cheated' and had a mere 40 pages left and ruined the rest for myself by seeing the movie. However, I have to say that The Virgin Suicides was truly remarkable and if it weren't for the crazy cult inducing parents and suicidal tendencies, then being a Lisbon girl would be fine by me-hypothetically speaking that is. There is no true way to describe the haunting and tragic lives of the Lisbon girl's without sounding completely corny and using various cliches, which happen to be my specialty. For those who have not read the book OR seen the movie, please do! Coupled with the fact that it was directed by Sofia Coppola, how much better could it get?

Sooo lately I have been a tad bit obsessed with these Jil Sander ads way back from 2006-ish. First of all, I would like to point out that girl? fairy? nymph? OR wonderfully lovely Tayla Collins, that looks like all the things listed above, especially the latter. I am not quite sure if her whole career went dormant or if she fell of the face of the earth... Furthermore, I am quite enamored by the etherealness of these adds; that is, if "etherealness" or "heavenliness" can be used to describe an ad. Simply charming, no?

Hello, it seems like ages since my last post, but sure enough I have returned from my vacation of neglecting my blog. Anyways, I haven't had much inspiration lately as collections go, but the one thing that has inspired me in countless ways are the recent pictures I have seen floating around on the internet of the wondrous Lindsey Wixson. Her full butterfly lips are simply alluring coupled with the fact that her gapped tooth smile is one of the most enchanting. I've noticed that gap toothed models seem to be all the rage lately in the fashion world as evidenced by the rising fame of Lara Stone as well as Georgia Jagger. I'm completely and utterly enamored. Far from insipid looking, and completely alluring, yes?

Hello! Before I ramble (like i always do) I shall take care of the "beautiful blogger award" that was given to me by the lovely girl over at oh hello there (a blog you best check out!) Consequently, I am to write 7 random things about myself, and tag 7 other bloggers to do so as well.

1. I have always had a love and knack for creative writing. For I have relished in it for many years! However, I tend to write the longest sentences, which therefore have me nearly gasping for air and hyperventilating after reading only one! Oh dear.....

2. Truthfully, and to put it rather bluntly, I am very shy.

3. I have a bit of an obsession with tights. Really any tights make me instantly happy and such. Glitter ones, patterned ones, floral ones......

4. My biggest fear is resulting to nothing in the future, and having waisted all my life.

5. I am completely and utterly in love with words. I vie to expand my horizons through vocabulary. At the moment, my favorite word is efforescence. Efforescence meaning "blooming, flowering."

6. Amongst my favorite foods, is white rice!

7. Despite my love for glitter-y tights, I find glitter and sequins on most clothing sickening.

Before I introduce this post and ramble, I first must take care of an award I have recieved from a fellow blogger. First, I shall address the "happy 101 award" I have received from swastruck. This award consists of writing 10 things that make me happy, well here i go.........

1. Cynical comedy and Larry David make me quite quite happy, not to mention in hysterics!

Why, hello. Long time no post! In a nutshell, this post is about the dazzling (and no-not like the cliche Edward Cullen. gag) Preen Fall 2010 collection. I'd like to introduce this collection, by emphasizing the layers and wraps that appeared in the dresses. The coating of a sheer, thin material atop a regular material is simply delightful. Ahh, what's a better word for delightful? Oh yes it was simply ambrosial. Ambrosial meaning divine. I believe that word sufficed. The sheer material atop of the floral dress was a bit lolita-ish, but nontheless I loved it! Thankfully, this collection didn't outdo the florals and make them kitschy. Or at least not too kitschy. Well, overall the collection was ambrosial (consider that your word of the day). How are you all? xx

I think I have made my obsession with Rodarte over abundantly clear. I already did a post on Rodarte f/w 09 but it doesn't hurt to recap/repost the amazingness does it? No? Okay then. Tsk. Tsk. Well then, now that is all said and done with I shall now adress the collection. There's nothing really more to say, than that the sheer loveliness and delight of the collection truly shone in every outfit, let alone every collection that Kate and Laura Mulleavy have debuted. I was truly taken back by the mermaid-esque color palette, and metalic tones. Quite amazing. The title of this post is quite far off to what it is actually about. I'm rather scatterbrained. I tend to spend much of my time randomly quoting dead people, or ancient books. A hobby perhaps.....? I'm beginning to think that this "blog" (how i dread and resent that word....) is more of a rubbish blog, than an actualy "fashion blog." Sometimes I wonder why I even created my blog to read "Reve De la Mode." It's terribly cliche. I suppose it was when I was obsessed with french words, which I still am.... Have you ever felt the urge to learn a language? Like, it just dawned on you one day.... "I want to learn Swedish...." or anything like that? These days, I have a strong desire to learn French, Swedish, and Japanese. I think that all the languages are really charming, and magical. Especially Swedish and French. I really have a strong aspiration and longing to go to Sweden, France, and Japan. Have any of you out there been there, want to go there, or at least inhabit there? I am terribly sorry, that this post is jumping around to all sorts of places. First to dead people, then to blogs, then to languages. It doesn't really seem to make any sense. I'd like to say I won't do it again, but that is completely far off and unlikely of myself. I tend to jump around like a fox when speaking, or in this case typing. Typing "rubbish" as the Brits say. On a another note (kinda)............

Sometimes I like to sit and gaze at the Viktor and Rolf ss 09 collection...the patterns and 3D shapes were simply alluring, and I must not forget to say that the dress reminded me of a demented unicorn. The sheer blouse is absolute perfection//though I could do without the Gobstopper sized gems on the earrings.

Oh hello there. So I clearly have nothing better to do than post mindless and useless pictures, hopefully or perhaps, in a way, shape, or form inspire you. First and for most, I am surprised and rather glad that it has been raining over here, raining is just lovely, and in my small eyes it is a little crumb of inspiration. Oh well, I suppose I should get to the main point of this post.... I've had this pictures saved up on my computer for some time and I needed to share it! It's a 'Tea bag shirt!' However, it saddens me that I do not know who designed this work of art. It's simply alluring. I'd wear it in a heartbeat if it was actually manufactured, but for now fantasizing myself wearing this shirt will do for now......*sigh* What are your opinions on this shirt? rodarte fall 09

This collection is like water infused clothing polished with soft pastels. Though this was not the most recent or majestic Rodarte collection, it very well had to be my favorite. The soft dreamy colors appeared like the sun hitting stained glass windows. The colors were really my favorite part. I am such a big fan of light creamy blues (creamy? really ella. really. i sound like i'm on a cooking show). The fabrics were wrapped around like an onion, layers upon layers, upon layers.... kinda like tissue paper glued to a milky white paper, layered, and stacked, to reveal an array of soft blues. I call it MAGIC. I must put emphasis on the MAGIC.

Ello bloggers. So as you know this Alexander Mcqueen collection was one that everyone was freaking out over. I have to join the clan of the Alexander Mcqueen obsessers .This collection I believe was honestly his best. It took me sometime to process the whole collection. The shoes were probably the part that most had an infatuation with, well I too loved them, but what really got me, like Tavi pointed out, was the construction of the model's faces. Tavi, also pointed out some what of a 3-D affect. I thought the models looked like iguanas. It was so enchanting, and whimsical, in a twisted way. It was so over the top, and just too much, well that's Alexander Mcqueen for you.-ella
